The Turing Trust would like to make a special announcement celebrating the Alan Turing Year, Alan Turing being the great uncle of the trust founder. This is a greatly auspicious moment for the trust and we hope that Alan Turing’s contribution to computer science and his invention of the computer will help set the tone for our development programmes in Ghana. The Alan Turing Year 2012 will be a celebration of the life and scientific influence of Alan Turing on the occasion of the centenary of his birth on 23 June 1912. Turing had a marked influence on computing, computer science, artificial intelligence, developmental biology, and the mathematical theory of computability and made important contributions to code-breaking during the Second World War.
The international impact of Turing's work is reflected in the growing list of countries planning Alan Turing Year celebrations, these include but are not limited to: Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, U.K. and the U.S.A. This reinforces the impact of Alan Turing’s work in the development of the computer sciences and sets an important backdrop from which the trust carries its development programmes.
There will also be commemorative stamps of Alan Turing available later this year.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and wish all the best to those who are organising events in honour of Alan Turing.
